Absences during term time

Good attendance and punctuality is essential if pupils are to take full advantage of their education and gain the appropriate skills which will equip them for life.   School opens at 8:45am and teachers use the time between then and 9 o'clock to prepare the children for the day.  This may be through early morning tasks or finishing bits of work.  It is also the when the register is completed and lunch orders are taken.

The school register closes at 9 o'clock and lessons begin promptly.  Anyone arriving after that time is marked as late.  It is unsettling for the class and the individual pupil when someone is late, and can have a significant impact on teaching time.  Being as little as 5 minutes late three times a week is the equivalent of nine and a half hours lost learning time throughout the year.  That's nearly two whole school days.

At Bosley St. Mary's Primary School, we work closely with pupils and parents to support attendance.  Let us know if you think that there may become an issue - we can work with you to prevent that from happening.   School will NOT authorise holidays during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances surrounding the holiday.  School may consider issuing a Fixed Penalty Fine for unauthorised absences in term time.
