Snowy Day Work for Class 1 – Thursday 1st March 2018

Date: 1st Mar 2018 @ 8:44am

Hello Class 1,

Well, what an exciting day!  I hope that everyone is well, warm and ready to enjoy the snow!

Here is the work for today.

Can you write a poem about the snow? Use your senses to help you write this poem.  Think carefully about:

  • What you can see with your eyes

  • What you can hear with your ears

  • What you can smell with your nose

  • What you can touch with your fingers

  • What you can taste with your tongue

  • How all this makes you feel inside

Then put all this together in a poem that describes our snowy day.  Remember that all great writing has:

  • Capital letters

  • Finger spaces

  • Best, neat handwriting

  • Punctuation like full stops, commas

Year 2 extra challenge – can you include a question, command and exclamation in your poem?

I’m really looking forward to reading your great work and I know that once you have finished writing you will decorate your poems beautifully.

If you need some inspiration, then have a look at this poem:

Or, if you are sick of the snow then watch this poem (it has two of my favourite things in it!):

Practise your number bonds by following this link:  You can practise number bonds to 10, 20 or even 100.  And if you want a real challenge then try some the other games.

By the way, if you look at this page on our website you will find lots of links to exciting, fun maths games.

Have a great day everybody – I’m really looking forward to reading your fantastic poems and hearing all about your fun in the snow!
