More Snowy Day Work for Class 1 – Friday 2nd March 2018

Date: 2nd Mar 2018 @ 8:23am

Good Morning Class 1!

I hope you had lots of fun yesterday playing in the snow and enjoying an unexpected day off school.  There’s lots more fun to be had today and in between building snow men, women and children, I have some work for you to do.

Can you write a newspaper report about the snow?  This is something that we haven’t done in class yet, so you may want to use the internet (with a grown-up’s permission and help) to find examples of newspaper reports and the information they contain.

Your newspaper report should have:

  • A catchy title that grabs the reader’s attention
  • Information that tells the reader about what has happened, where, when, why, how and to whom
  • A brilliant picture of the event

We will be looking at newspapers more in the coming weeks, so this is a great chance to have a go first.  To help you, I have attached a document called “The Bosley Times” that you can use as a template. This video (which is for slightly older children) has really some good ideas:

Remember that all great writing has:

  • Capital letters
  • Finger spaces
  • Best, neat handwriting
  • Punctuation like full stops and commas in the right place

Look at the “Snow Day Maths Challenges” document.  Pick one challenge – Cool Blue, Spicy Orange or Red Hot – and complete it.

Remember!  You don’t have to complete just one challenge, you can do to two or even three if you like.  For children in Year 2 who are feeling particularly adventurous, there is an extra times tables challenge to complete.  Again, this is quite new so just have a go and try your best.

Don’t forget that there are lots of maths games on our website.

Please don’t worry if you are unable to print sheets out.  Just complete your work on any paper you have to hand and I will mark it and put it in your work books.

Have a great day everybody.  Stay safe and warm and most of all – have fun!
