Jodrell Bank

Date: 7th Nov 2017 @ 7:12pm

Class 2 had a fantastic trip to Jodrell Bank. After a morning learning about the telescope and the solar system, we then attended two fascinating workshops. In the first we learnt about the Mars Rover and how scientists are finding out more and more about the Red Planet. We tested our knowledge of Mars before designing our own landing craft for the Rover (or, in this case, a raw egg). Class 2 were far more successful than NASA - three of our eggs survived in tact and the fourth only had a small crack.

In our second workshop explored what life is like for astronauts on board the International Space Station (the ISS). We were astonished to learn that the ISS would have completed two orbits of the Earth in the time it took us to eat our lunch, attend a workshop and get back to Bosley. We then tested how quickly we could build circuits wearing space-suit gloves and whether we were fit enough to be astronauts. Fortunately we did not have to do any of this in micro-gravity!

Have a look at our photos to see what a great day we had...and who Mrs Burton was luck enough to meet.

Many thanks to Sofia, Jodie, James and everyone at Jodrell Bank for such an enjoyable and informative day.
