Returning to School, September 2020

As we are all aware it is expected that all children return to school full time from September 2020.

The Government recognise that returning to school is vital for children’s education and for their wellbeing. Time out of school is detrimental for children’s cognitive and academic development, particularly for disadvantaged children. This impact can affect both current levels of learning and children’s future ability to learn, and therefore we need to ensure all children can return to school sooner rather than later.

The risk to children themselves of becoming severely ill from Coronavirus (COVID-19) is very low and there are negative health impacts of being out of school.

We know that school is a vital point of contact for public health and safeguarding services that are critical to the wellbeing of children and families. We have put together a parents' guide that we hope will answer all your questions about the planned return to school in September.

Some children may be anxious what it will be like to be in school after so long away or they may be very excited about going back.  To help them to know what to expect we have also produced a pupils' guide.  Later in the summer we will upload videos so they can see what their classroom will look like.
